WS1CI and Dowex 12-litre filter media are designed to remove hardness salts (calcium and magnesium). Calcium and magnesium ions are exchanged for an equivalent number of sodium ions, which reduces hardness without significantly changing the total salt content of the water.

The filter protects water heating elements from limescale formation and protects household appliances from premature breakdowns.
